After an upgrade from SuSE 10.0 to 10.2, I have got some wierdness with
mplayer.

If I just do a 'mplayer /dev/video0'

I get pretty good video., but if I use freevo, it changes the 4:3 signal to
something that looks like 16:0 and skips a lot. Once I close sown freeo and
do a 'mplayer /dev/video0' again, the ourput looks like the freevo output,
16:9ish and choppy. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks,

Tom Weichmann

Use http://freevo.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/doc/TroubleShooting to get the
mplayer command line and post this.

Hi all,
My freevo is configure to start in full screen.
I have done the freevo setup
when I play movies the movies on the tv are not full screen and they are over
to left side of the screen in a small box.
the movies I am trying to play are in iso format.
I have this set in my local_config.py : VIDEO_PREFERED_PLAYER='mplayer'
Any suggestions on what to set to fix this?
I can play movies on the tv in full screen with mplayer, but not full screen in
freevo?
thank you

Hi,

Are you running Freevo on a framebuffer, or from X?
When running in a framebuffer, setting the display to sdl in
freevo.confmakes the mirracle happen :-)

Hi

Thx for your answer.

I managed to patch the webserver.py manually. It's quite the same
"incompability" as in recordserver.py. So the webserver
works now.

For the recordserver, I applied the diff under the link above, and I can
start/stop the recordserver now without any errors,
but if I click on Watch TV on the freevo main menu, freevo freezes and I
get the following error in my recordserver.log:

[HTTPChannel,1,127.0.0.1] Unhandled error in Deferred:

  s = xmlrpclib.dumps(f, methodresponse=True, allow_none=self.allowNone)
exceptions.AttributeError: RecordServer instance has no attribute
'allowNone'

Is there also a patch for this somewhere or is there someting else going
wrong ?

Again, thx in advance :)

The problem is the video is 4:3, with black bars encoded at the top
and bottom of the picture (technically, I think this is 16L12: a 16:9
picture letterboxed within a 12:9 (i.e. 4:3) frame).

My own setup works well for *actual* 16:9 videos (e.g. DVB-T streams,
DivX videos etc.)

For the record, I've got:

-- xorg.conf ----------------
    DisplaySize 272 153

-- ~/.mplayer/config --------
    monitoraspect=16:9

...and obviously running the only (AFAIK) anamorphic skin, "Panorama".

This is all on a telly using S-Video input.

For the problem of 16L12 videos you probably *don't* want to configure
mplayer to use an anamorphic output. TV zoom would then be usually
used, but defining a video filter to stretch the output from the
Freevo box would probably result in better quality. Modifying
MPLAYER_OPTS in local.conf adding a `-vf' option, perhaps?

Hope that helps,

Andrew

I'm using a hacked version of bluestar. I think I only changed the font to
DejaVuBold and added the anamorphic variable.
Does anyone want it?

I have a plugin that adds two options to the submenu of a movie and let
you (in mplayer) force an aspect ratio and to select different -vf
options from a list. It works changing the MPLAYER_ARGS_DEF and
MPLAYER_VF_* variables on the fly and then restoring to their default
values when the movie stops or the menu changes.

The plugin is not finished but is quite simple and may be a good
starting point if someone has time to add some code to it because I
can't work on it and it already works for my simple needs.
