Hi all,
I'm a Freevo n00b having trouble getting things running. I've read the FAQ,
searched the list archives, hunted through docs and didn't find anything
similar, apologies if I've missed something obvious.
I have a Via EPIA MII 6000 motherboard, I'm running Zenwalk Linux (a
Slackware-based distro AFAIK). It's a low power CPU, but has the CLE266
chip for hardware mpeg2 processing. Zenwalk ships with Xorg 7.2, which
AFAICT has all the Unichrome drivers etc I need built in and working.
I installed Freevo 1.7.3 from source without trouble. I installed LIRC with
a lot of trouble :-) but it seems to be working (though I've yet to configure
or use it with any apps).
Following the QuickStartGuide, "freevo setup" ran fine, I set up local_conf.py
as described (just set up some dirs and turn debugging on). Next (with X not
running), I try "freevo -fs" - the screen flickers, the X mouse-cursor appears,
and I'm dumped back to the console, though with no apparent errors. I don't
see any real errors in the Freevo log, nor in the X log (both logs attached).

There's a warning about config file version changes in the Freevo log, and I
always get the list of changes. I tried to convert to the newer (5.20) format
with freevo convert_congig /etc/freevo/local_conf.py -w but despite saying it
wrote /etc/freevo/local_conf.py, nothing seems to have changed. That file still
lists version as 5.17, and I still get the list of config changes between 5.17
and 5.20 every time I try anything.
There's a note about missing fonts, and using alternates in the logfile - the
altenrate (Vera) is installed, xlsfonts | grep vera lists "-bitstream-bistream
vera sans bold..." etc.
I've tried running Freevo as both root and a normal user, though it doesn't
seem to make any difference. I changed/checked perms on various config files
and dirs, and log dirs, in case my normal user couldn't read/write somewhere,
but that doesn't seem to be it. I've set DEBUG to 9 for the most output, but
still don't see any errors.
I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to try next. Can anyone see what's going
wrong ? Any help appreciated!
