You shouldn't have to, it should work out of the box. Check the
webserver logs to see if there's any clues in there. Turn up your debug
levels maybe. I'm running rel-1 svn so I'm not sure of the status in
1.7.5 but I believe it should work.

That would work indeed, it's just not necessary for the playing with vlc
and the web interface.
