Bingo! Turns out it was a syntax problem, guess the example switches included in the config file are no longer valid with the latest versions of zsnes and xmame. Although what is the syntax for the DEBUG commands? I wasn't able to get that to work, but instead used FREEVO_LOGDIR = '/home/freevo/log' and when looking at the log files notice that the apps were complaining about the switches so you certainly put me on the right track with the problem being related to command switches.
