I am starting freevo from the command line till all the issues are
solved. (This is my second freevo system - the other one is working
flawlessly except the tux skin - another story). I don't use the -fs
option.

Do you mean in /etc/freevo.conf? I had it at 1/2 that - 960x540. I
didn't need it before. However, I have now changed it to 1920x1080 and
the symptom seems to have gone away. However, when I start a movie (I
use xine as my preferred player), and hit q, the whole system freezes.
I have not had this issue before. Xine works without issues outside of
freevo. Any ideas?

I didn't have to make any changes to my xorg with respect to the
nvidia driver. I just works with Fedora 10. I get very sharp playback
and smooth HD content as well with the nvidia driver.
