I had some fun with mplayer and lastfm's URIs. MPlayer's URL handling is quite broken, works sometimes and doesn't for very similar URLs. I should have analysed the problem further but ran out of time, instead I simply downloaded and saved the song to a file and then let mplayer play the file while it was still downloading. So long as the cache is zero or very small mplayer will play the song until the end but if the cache is large then it only plays the cached part.
