Freevo has a x10 plugin, this plugin use heyu ( http://www.heyu.org/ ) for sending orders.

Your google account is very limited ;) X10 is very old, was developed in 1975 (people were dancing disco music at this time ;-) But it still a good protocol. There are plenty "new" home automation protocols, like : * C-BUS, not tested ; * 1-wire, used for temperature monitoring and electronics ; * RFXCOM, RF transmitter ; * DMX, professional lighting controller ; * X10 Security, X10 on RF, used by alarm systems ; * xPL, open protocol ( This one really rocks : http://wiki.xplproject.org.uk/index.php/Main_Page ) ; * Zigbee, it a radio transmission protocol like Bluetooth or Wifi. * A lots of other proprietary protocols, but you should avoid them, because they will bind you with a manufacturer. > I'm wondering if anyone has more knowledge on this and could share > their experiences. I use 1-wire, X10, xPL for home automation and Zigbee for robotics. The subject is very large... > I'm in Ireland so UK or Irish specific hardware info would be good. I know that UK price are cheaper, I live in France, with the power of Euro, I buy all my Home Automation items in UK ;-) > Off the top of my head what I'd be looking for initially > at least is control over power socket outlets Just switch on/off power outlets? X10 is enough. > and a gas powered boiler with radiators as the central heading system. This is more complicated, you need temperature sensor and a smart controller for the boiler. You should check the Bwired installation : http://www.bwired.nl/ There is a lot of informations on this website and the forum ( http://www.domoticaforum.eu/ ) is active.
