I'd be interested in hearing your story. I tried the same thing and 
botched my installation. Something along the lines of latest freevo 
(git) requiring newer kaa stuff (undocumented which commit was required) 
and I had to upgrade all kaa libs. Somehow all of that broke the 
installation and since not even the vanilla 1.9.0 release has documented 
dependencies to kaa _versions_ I was unable to go back. I'm now trying 
to get to along with xbmc. We'll see what happens...

I've poked the list and maintainers a number of times for creating a 
release of freevo+kaa so distributions etc has something to package. No 
response above "git works fine". :-(

If you can make public which versions and commits of all the 
dependencies you use, that would certainly be helpful as a starting 
point for others (I might decide xbmc is not my thing, and try to go 
back :) )
