What harm is there in leaving /var/lib/rpm on the VS? Afterall, only root
can install.

You can do rpm type stuff in the VS, having copied /var/lib/rpm

bevs -r vsone

[root@vsone /path]# rpmu -Uvh <rpm>

rpmu used since /bin/rpm not available
