It is not provided on the freeVSD site because using SSL connections
requires the creation of a certificate authority and the management of
certificates. To do this properly is not a trivial task. The CA scripts
included with freeVSD are not a robust implmentation and should not be
regarded as such, so unless you know what you are doing, and appreciate the
security issues involved, don't just grab an RPM and go diving into using
SSL. By requiring people to compile-in SSL support from source we hope to
discourage the less technically able from trying it out. I would fully
expect people to inundate the list because they are unable to get their CA
working properly - which is not really a freeVSD issue at all. When a more
fool-proof certificate management scheme is in place (hopefully courtesy of
the chaps at Jumpline.com) I will be happy to make SSL-enabled rpms
available. Until that time I am afraid using SSL is going to require a very
slight effort on your part.
