debian install question

Hi all

I think i'm (finally) ready to install freevsd on my debian system.
A question though: in the user-guide it says that even for an 
installation from source, i should install the rpm with some extra 
packages. Should I use alien to convert these to .deb's and install 
them like that ? or find source for everything ? or don't install them 
at all ?
