Hi There,

It is impossible to answer this question with the information you supplied.
However, depending on the type of customer you are planning to host they
will have a bandwidth requirement. This requirement is usually specified in
GB per month, with approximately 20GB per month making a 64Kb/s line.

>From this it is fairly easy to make some estimates:

Where

(a) Is how many GB per month you want to provide per virtual server

(b) Is how many VS's you are planning to host in total

(c) Is the bandwidth of connection you need to purchase

        c = (a x b) x 3.2

Remember to add enough headroom to cope with traffic spikes, typically 25%
to 30%.

Assuming you are offering say 3GB per month for 50 VSs then the sum would
indicate you need 480Kb/s, plus enough room for spikes and growth. I would
suggest going for about 1Mb/s to be on the safe side.

Obviously all of the above is based on averages and estimates, and as such
cannot give the 'full' picture. You will also need to take into account any
other trafiic that may be sharing the Internet connection.

It's good to do the sums for yourself - bandwidth plays a major part in any
ISP's cost structure.

If in doubt, start with a T-1 ;o)

Hope this helps,

Mark.
