reverse lookup problem

Hi,
 All my DNS entries are correct, hosts.conf contains 
order hosts,bind and my nsswitch entries are
appropriate, whenever I try to connect to any service
like telnet, ftp, it takes a lot of time to get a
login prompt! Any clue??
