errors after commenting main pop stream:
May 29 17:03:59 ns inetd[401]: pop-3/tcp: unknown service
May 29 17:03:59 ns inetd[401]: smtp/tcp: bind: Address already in use
so the freeVSD install script had pop-3 as the service not pop3 - changing
inetd.conf virtualised pop3 to the right service has corrected that and pop
is now accepting virtualised connections
netstat -nl shows - this entry for smtp
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:25 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
so looks like its listening on all IP's - so we can stop sendmail
etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail stop - but the VS's still don't listen on 25 -
should we remove the start up script so sendmail doesn't run as a daemon
rm -f /etc/rc.d/rc?.d/S??sendmail
