Your skel entries in vsd.conf are probably incorrect and referring to a directory which does not exist. It is simplest to run vsd-genskel.pl or put a pre-built skel in place prior to running vsd-install.pl as this will ensure everything is correctly set up. I suggest you run vsd-uninstall.pl and remove your current configuration (no need to remove your existing skel) and then run vsd-install.pl again.

After you have added your virtual server using 'vsdadm vs_create...' you must run vsd-vsbatch.pl (takes about 2 minutes and should not produce any errors). Only then will your virtual server's file system have been created and will you be able to correctly boot it.

Hello again,
thank you mr. Zen Woo and mr. Tim Sellar for the answers for my problem.
But unfortunately I got some doubts...I did that:
- created a skel
- registered it (part_skeladd command)
- created a virtual server
-> When I created the VS everything seemed to be working fine, but when I visited the directory /home/vs ; the directory with the files of the new VS hadn't been created, so, when I tried to start this new VS, I couldn't (received this error messages:
start VS oponto-inglaterra: stage [1]
couldn't access /home/vsd/vs/oponto-inglaterra: No such file or directory
start VS oponto-inglaterra: stage [2]
couldn't access /home/vsd/vs/oponto-inglaterra: No such file or directory   ). So, should this directory be created automatically using the skel as a base or should I copy the skel directories to this new one?
Thank you very much for your attention and support.
I hope that we have this running until today's night.
=)
Bye, and I am waiting your answers.

Hi,

Basically, you are getting this error message because the skel is not registered. vsd-genskel.pl does not register the skel it creates. You will need to use vsdadm to do that. When doing a fresh install, it is recommended that you generate the skel first (using vsd-genskel.pl) before running vsd-install.pl which ask you whether to register the skel or not.

Thanks,

Zen

Subject: VS creation problems.

Hello,
this is my first message to this mail list.
I just installed freeVSD in one of the servers that the webhosting company that I work has, and we are VERY interested in start providing this service in Brazil (where we are).
But when I tried to create a virtual server I got some problems, and all the times the message said that the skel that I tried to use doesn't exist, but I created it correctly and seems to br working perfectly....what should I do?
    I am waiting your answer.
    Thank you very much.
