Hello,
upgrading the RPM in the skel should not be too traumatic, the whole
idea of the skel is that you only have to do something once and it will
be applied to all virtual servers. As long as there are no new files in
the new rpm (ie a file exists in the new RPM and not in the old one, and
therefore not in the virtual server), the new versions of each of the
existing files will become available to all virtual servers as soon as
they are repaced in the skel.
To make this process even more reliable we have provided a vsd-linkv.pl
script which will move a virtual server from one skel onto another. All
you have to do is create a copy of the existing skel, upgrade it how you
wish, move one virtual server over (or create a new virtual server on
the new skel), test that the application works, and then move all of the
other virtual servers over. OK, say this may mean a small downtime while
the links to the new files are created, but surely that is better than
having to go and upgrade each virtual server individually?
One thing we are working on here is trying to make the upgrading of
skels / implementation of new featres/services in skels as seemless as
possible. If the utilities we have provided are not enough, please let
us know what you need.
