freeVSD-1.4.10-1 has been enhanced to make the upgrade process substantially simpler and largely automatic. Although not yet released it has been tagged in CVS. I will be recmomending to all users of freeVSD that following its release they upgrade to this latest version. The INSTALL document also details how to 'vsd-linkvs' your existing virtual servers to a more up-to-date skel.

Subject: freevsd upgrade

A couple of questions for everyone out there.

1)       I have a vsd server that is running version 1.4.5 on Redhat 6.2.  If I try to update to the latest release am I going to have any major hurdles to overcome or should the new rpms just fall right into place.  I am also concerned about rebuilding skels as I have quite a few virtual servers on this box.

2)       In addition to the above, I am looking into wanting to upgrade my versions on mysql, php, and apache on this machine.  I will obviously have to rebuild the skel for this to happen as I have compiled all of these from source for specific items that I needed included in the servers.  Once I upgrade the software I will then need to build the new skel.  Is it possible that the old skels will just follow the links back to the new files and all will come back up okay or is it suggested to attempt the upgrade to the current version of vsd and build an additional skel dir that the new virtual servers will point to?

Thank you for all of your help.  My servers have been doing just fine on the old version but I am getting to the point where I need some new features for some clients.  All of your help is appreciated.
