Sorry for the off-topic thread but Im going crazy with this problem....

It is about synchronising two different web sites by "tar"ring them.

We want to create a .tar.gz file of our web site. We will regularly
download this .tar.gz and extract it to our local mirror of this web
site (on which we will do maintenance / update work.) We will then
create another .tar.gz from the local mirror and upload this to the main
site.

The problem is, I do not want to overwrite ALL files on the web server -
only those that have a modification time that is earlier than the one in
the .tar.gz file (because it makes me nervous overwriting so many files
when not necessary :-).) Is there a way to do this? I have checked

http://www.gnu.org/manual/tar/html_mono/tar.html

from top to bottom (almost) but can't see one. Surely there must be a
simply way to do such a task? Perhaps theres a way of creating a
.tar.gz file on our mirror site that only contains files that have a
later modification date than the ones in the original .tar.gz (that was
downloaded from the web site)?

Thanks in advance,

Ben Kennish
