In an
effort not to contribute to spamming Sendmail is, by default, resistant to
relaying email. As a result it is necessary to use
pop-before-relay/pop-before-smtp when your are sending email. This involves
using the popAuthd daemon to monitor pop connections and add the necessary
entries to Sendmail's configuration to allow relaying. Getting popAuthd running
is a simple matter of uncommenting an entry in the virtual server's startup
files (or in the skel if you wish it to be the default arrangement for all
virtual servers). Further instructions are given in the INSTALL document under '
6.5.3 Pop before SMTP'
