Hi All!

I'm fairly compeent with Linux, etc.; just a "newbie" as far as FreeVSD
goes :-) I read through most of the mail archives, but still have a
couple of questons I hope you don't mind helping me with. My questions:

1. What seems to be the best partitioning scheme for a FreeVSD setup?
For example, a layout I tend to follow 9for a web server) is this:

    / ( 80MB)
    /tmp ( 128MB)
    /usr (1,500MB)
    /var ( 512MB)
/home (balance of space, since this is where the DocumentRoot
    directories are held)

Of course, for a mail server, /home is smaller (maybe just 1GB or so),
with the bulk of the disk space going to the /var parition, since this
is obviously where the mail spools are kept :-)

Does this layout work well, or should I use a different layout? Where
should I put the bulk of the space (since web, mail, database will seem
to go onto the one server).

2. I tend to prefer installing all my apps (Apache, Sendmail, MySQl,
etc.) from source, so from what i recall reading, it is best to install
FreeVSD from source, since there seem to be some "issues" with regards
to mixing RPM and source installs?

Is there anything I should be wary of? For example, I know that RPMs
tend to install to /usr, while source tends to install to /usr/local.
Will the source install of FreeVSD take that into account (i.e., that
most of the stuff is installed to /usr/local), or will I need to change
the install ocation, via the --prefix configure option?

Thanx, in advance, for your help!
