Hi Alan, As far as I know, this is what happens...
The file vsd-genskel.pl is in charge of generating a skel. This will take the majority of files on your current setup and will copy them to a skel directory (default /home/vsd/skel/xxx/ where xxx is the name of the skel.) Once this is done, it will then install the RPMs installed by the freevsd-pkgs RPM into the skel, overwriting any files that are already present. So I would think you should probably do it like this... Install base system Install the apps you want Install freeVSD (dont generate a skel yet) Check /etc/vsd/freevsd.conf to ensure that all files from your apps will be copied to skel Install freevsd-pkgs and make sure the rpms that are installed by it will not overwrite your apps (if they do - its because they have been specifically patched to work with freeVSD and yours probably wont work properly) Create a skel with vsd-genskel.pl Create a VS Might be an idea to wait and see if anyone agrees with me first, though :) Hope this helps, Ben Kennish [EMAIL PROTECTED] -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Alan Murrell Sent: 18 January 2002 18:59 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: installation "strategy"? Hello again! sorry for all the questions, but I have one that the install docs didn't really quite answer: I am planning on installing all the apps i want myself, and creating the skel based on those apps. My question is: Do I: 1. install the base system, then freevsd, then the freevsd-pkg, *then* the apps, or 2. install the base system, then the apps i want, then freevsd, *then*the free-vsd-pkg? Agan, thanx for your help and input!
