A very important issue with these packages is that you cannot use the standard rpm's from RedHat for your /usr/share/freevsd/pkgs directory. The freevsd rpm's are patched to let hostname retrieval work as it should. When you install the standard rpm's in your skel, then a call to this lib for the hostname will always retrieve the hostname from the kernel (the host machine's hostname) and not the hostname of the virtual server. You will need this patch to make it work. (After the patch it will retrieve the virtual server's host name from the /etc/FQDN file) All the other packages in the /usr/share/freevsd/pkgs directory are patched too. This means you cannot just use RedHat 7.3 rpm's directly from the disribution to generate a skel. You can get rpm packages for RedHat 7.2 from: http://www.expio.co.nz/~sgarner/freevsd/rh72pkgs/ And it can't be said enough: Do not install these packages in your host system.

Make sure these packages are up to date or newer then what is install with Red Hat 7.3. My problem I had with the packages was glibc, I had to remove the glibc-2.2.2 that in put there by default and put glibc-2.2.5 in replacement. For getting the files I needed I just got them from Red hat's FTP. Then you can generate skels without a fuss. Also this rule will work with other versions just make sure the installed system packages or equal or older then the ones you plan to install with the FreeVSD skels. -- Ryan Clark System Administrator The Internet Marketing Center [EMAIL PROTECTED] 604-730-2833 -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Admin W3Inter.net Sent: Thursday, June 13, 2002 2:09 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: New message Hello, Does anyone knows when FreeVSD will support RedHat 7.2/7.3 officially?
