I do believe this is a very interesting way to make the FreeVSD system even more a real virtual server system. I've been following the vserver project of solucorp for the last few months now but haven't had the time to look at the possibilities to merge this technology with the FreeVSD administration system. The solucorp solution uses a full copy of the hostserver's filesystem for every virtual server, but i can't think of any reason why this can't be a linked filesystem as it is used in FreeVSD. Does anyone have some real world experience with solucorp's vserver?
The only drawback i could find is the need to patch the kernel. This makes installing it quite messy when you don't know what you're doing. You either have to patch everything (remember people can just upload and compile their own `ps' from source too), or you can run FreeVSD on top of something like `vserver' to achieve the proper virtualisation (which in-turn removes the need to patch anything except `reboot' unless you still want the indirection protection and extra control of the pseudo-root `admin' user): http://www.solucorp.qc.ca/miscprj/s_context.hc -Paul -- Nottingham, GB ------------------------- The freeVSD Support List -------------------------- Subscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=subscribe%20freevsd-support Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=unsubscribe%20freevsd-support Archives: http://freevsd.org/support/mail-archives/freevsd-support ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ------------------------- The freeVSD Support List -------------------------- Subscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=subscribe%20freevsd-support Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=unsubscribe%20freevsd-support Archives: http://freevsd.org/support/mail-archives/freevsd-support -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
