Also, what do you think a normal user would think
when he starts 'make menuconfig' and nothing seems
to happen for more than half a minute (on a slow
system like my Athlon XP)? He'd think it doesn't
work. So I'm against all this "hide stuff from
the user" machinery.

These people who really don't want to see the
output will be using your webinterface anyway.
