Nack, they are not required. pppd is capable to handle it out by itself
(with LCP). We have a couple of routers in the field with different DSL
providers in different countries, nowhere these parameters are
needed. Normally, you even do not need to set a MTU value!  I try to
keep the config as small as possible.
