I used to work with gentoo on my notebook for over a year and really
learned to hate this tool... sorry, but if "emerge world" your system
after several months you have to spend a lot of time to got through a
huge list of changed files under /etc.

That was one of the reasons why I kicked gentoo forever and got back to
Debian based systems.
There you get a note when a package wants to upgrade a modified
config-file and you can say "Y -> yes", "N -> no" or "D -> show diff".
And in most cases I use "N" as default as the changes only are minor.
