I just got it to work with FreeWRT version 1.0 revision 1008 on an
ASUS WL-500gP by using the following settings:

# WLAN
auto eth2
iface eth2 inet manual
        wifi-type brcm
        wifi-country CH
        wifi-mode ap
        wifi-akm psk2
        wifi-crypto aes+tkip
        wifi-ssid <myessid>
        wifi-wpa_psk <mypasswd>

please note that I am using inet manual because I bridge it together
with the physical ports at the back of the device.

CAVEAT #1: I noticed that "wl" and "ifconfig" always seem to report
the encryption key as off / non supported but my laptop
can set up a connection properly regardless.

CAVEAT #2: The setup does not seem stable. I sometimes have to ifdown
/ ifup the wireless interface until it works properly. Not
sure whether this is related to my heavily playing around
with it at the moment, though.

Regards,
Georg
