ACID DREAMS
The CIA, LSD and the Sixties Rebellion

First chapter of a book about the CIA's use of LSD. Looking for a drug
to break down the psychological defences of enemy spies, "marijuana was
chosen as the most likely candidate for a speech-inducing agent."

CIA operatives determined that heroin and other habit-forming substances
"can be useful in reverse because of the stresses produced when they are
withdrawn from those who are addicted to their use".
