Amusing, and more to do with a journalist looking for a sensational opinion
piece than anything else.  I love the way that nowadays people invoke Steven
Hawking's name as a way of lending an article some authenticity.  And
quoting the Sunday Times as a reliable source of information.....

As for the possibilies of a black hole being created and then eating its way
through the planet:  any black hole created would be tiny, and according to
the work that got Steve Hawking his Nobel prize it will rapidly evapourate
in a blaze of Hawking radiation.  This'll happen far sooner than it can
manage to encounter any other bits of matter.

Mind you, the article didn't mention the more interesting - less likely but
far more dangerous - hypothesis that the experiment could change the state
of matter and destroy the universe.  The fact that we're still around
despite far the more energetic events of cosmic rays hitting the atmosphere
shows that this too is a load a crock.

And at least if this other guy is right and everyone else is wrong then
no-one is going to be around to tell me "I told you so". :-)
