The real cool thing that
Object Store and ColdStore give you is the ability to get a smart pointer
that is always consistent, thus IIRC you can get a reference that will
always be valid, and that object will be in the database but mapped to
memory whenever you need it
Storable will let you serialise the object, but it won't let you navigate
through the stored object to get the element (possibly a composite object)
that you want. And that's what Object Store gives you without needing to
have specially persistent object classes.
And if any of that's wrong... there's someone on this list who works for
Object Design (Object Store's creators) and I'm sure he'll put me straight
