Merde, Roger.

This was partly my mistake. My son, the teachaholic, wasnt going up there,
so I figured there was no THERE to go up to. The switchboard didnt
answer! Was there anything but an empty hall? Whom did they expect to
feed? We will check more carefully before next week. Did St Johns say
there WOULD be a next week.

The conversation at owen's was really focussed and interesting Basically
(my version) we were trying to convince the mathematicians in the room that
they had SOME responsibility to make themselves intelligible to the rest of
us. "Take four courses in Math, kill a fatted calf, and then come up to
the Temple" was not going to cut it. The conversation was particularly
timely for one of us (Dave West) who is urgently trying to develop an MA
program in compscis (?). We needed you, obviously.

Sorry to have missed you.

What did you guys talk about?
