I've nabble-ized the Sun Labs Lively Kernel mail list:

These folks have built a smalltalk-like environment entirely in javascript!
  http://research.sun.com/projects/lively/index.xhtml
Definitely still beta, but hard to believe its possible at all!

This is yet another example of javascript becoming a real power in the computing world, based mainly on its ubiquity .. but also on its hidden sophistication as a language itself (see http://tinyurl.com/df46ru) .

We're looking at javascript outside of the browser, even as a server (server side javascript .. SSJS) and for scripting on the desktop etc. Think of an agent system made up of all the browsers currently running in the world!
