I came across this neat paper by Moss & Edmonds (Manchester Metropolitan
University) http://cfpm.org/papers/simandsoc/ that was published in the
American Journal of Sociology a few years ago. A very nice example of how to
validate "toroidal checkerboard" models and why the stats you see in most
social science papers Just Doesn't Work.
