Jonathan was a friend of mine at Sun .. we (the skunkworks) vetted all
the Lighthouse/Nextstep code for infractions, great story for our next
beer.
I always felt ambiguous about patents -- on the one hand they are an
honest attempt at protection, on the other they are more toys for
useless lawyers. I felt OK about my nine, but I only did it in three
areas, ones that I felt were appropriate. And definitely
responsible. We passed up several others because they were frivolous.
