After using gmail for a bit, I noticed that some of my Sent emails were no
longer under the "Sent" label and had been deleted!

WTF? Well, the reason is that when a Sent email becomes part of a
Conversation and you Delete the conversation, the Sent email becomes labeled
Trash .. and goes away after a month. (Remember, there is only one copy of
an email even tho it seems to be under one or more Labels, and some of the
labels are special: Trash, Sent, All

So Archive fixes the problem, sorta:

.. just never delete, and always archive. More gist for Google's mill, I
guess.

But the problem then becomes that your Sent label is not just your sent
email, but any answer/conversation that email is involved with.

So does anyone have a solution for having a Label that is JUST the email you
send?

PS: If most folks dont understand any of this, dont worry .. but remember if
you move to Gmail, you may be stung by its not-obvious and definitely non
standard architecture.
