I thought I'd followup on Professor West's pointer to my VSA project. Thanks
for the post, I'm glad to see that it drew some attention. I started out with
simply trying to create a software implementation of the Viable System Model
(VSM), the model for autonomous systems developed by Stafford Beer.

I've been testing it with a simple heater/thermostat simulation and a
securities portfolio. For now, it's all in Smalltalk. Most of the work has
been on the autonomics in systems 1, 2 and 3. Systems 4 and 5 are still pretty
much placeholders for application specific planning and policy making logic.

I thought I'd reach out to the list and solicit suggestions for other
application areas. I've been thinking about simulating a government entity or
other kinds of human organizations. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Best,
