Hi all, About two months ago we launched a call for the submission of project proposals, which you or your collaborators might be interested in. The call is related to the FET-Proactive Initiative: Dynamics of Multi-Level Complex Systems (DyM-CS) (* http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/ict/fet-proactive/dymcs_en.html*<http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/ict/fet-proactive/dymcs_en.html>). As you can see from the site for the call, our intention is to finance research towards "New mathematical and computational formalisms on dynamics of multi-level systems developed and validated on real-world applications involving large and heterogeneous data sets. This could involve, for example, addressing emergence of and interactions between scales, combining the concepts of ‘programmability’ and ‘self-organisation’, or addressing 'out of equilibrium’ considerations. Priority application areas should present clearly defined challenges to ICT and/or have a relevant user/social/economic component. Through these areas, the complex systems science should be able to provide solutions for current ICT systems or lay the foundations for new ICT paradigms. For the validation, appropriate organizational structures should be chosen, e.g. large socio-technological systems, complex biological organisms or large organizations."
If you are in Europe, you could start a consortium (or join one), which would prepare and submit a project proposal - the deadline is January 17, 2012. In relation to the call we will finance about five projects with an average of 4 to 5 million euro each. For those of you who are in the US or some other partner country, you may benefit from the so-called Coordination Support Action (CSA), which will accompany DyM-CS and is devoted to strengthening international cooperation. This means that scientists from outside Europe could be supported financially (for short term visits or participation in conferences) so they could work with their collaborators in Europe. Also, in relation to the call we are looking for evaluators of project proposals, again mostly from European institutions.
