You could also (and equally well--or equally badly) use Lewin's phrase "the field at the present time". Or rather, since we do want to talk about existents that persist in time but may have different states at different times (or the same state at different times), "the field at some time". Or just "the field". My vote on my first parenthesis, by the way, is "equally badly".
