Fairly complete post on Google's attempt to build drone delivery: http://goo.gl/qa4kfP
Sounds like Google may really want to challenge Amazon? Sorta hard to see how, but possibly by providing the service to other businesses? The take-away is that apparently Google X, the research arm, is a business within a business looking for future opportunities. And yes, Amazon also is building a prototype. It will happen simple because the core tech is becoming mature: robotics, machine learning, solar power, drones and so on. The goal is a solar powered, zero carbon emission delivery system that is in the end cheaper than today's package delivery network. To tell the truth, I'd think a larger point-to-point system that had the "last mile" delivery be by human, but who knows. -- Owen
