You didn't say how much RAM you have, but if its 1GB or less, then
what you report would be unremarkable.

Check to see how much RAM your OS thinks you have. If you are running
Windows, you find this info from the hardware widget under control
panel, or the properties entry on the context menu of "Computer",

If the machine reports less RAM than is physically installed, then
possibly some of the memory modules have moved and need reseating
(this can happen when you expose the computer to a shock when moving
it, or even over time due to thermal stresses). If so, then it's a
quite simple fix to open you computer up and reseat the memory by
pulling the modules out and replacing them - just do so carefully,
don't try to force things as that's when you break them.
