Brendan Eich passed this along recently in a discussion on prototypal
inheritance:

https://medium.com/the-backer-army/fighting-poverty-with-code-d1ed3ebd982d

It basically details the journey of one homeless techie through to a good
job/life, and his kick starter to help stop homelessness.

Ever since I personally faced the problem of finding shelter with no
income, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how we might solve the
problem for everybody. That’s what programmers do best: identify a common
problem and figure out how to solve the problem more generally.

You might think it’s impossible to solve a problem like homelessness. It’s
so overwhelming! But you’d be wrong. In the US, we’re in the middle of a
nation-wide initiative to end homelessness for good.

I have no idea if this sort of thing can help, but I think I'll follow his
work and see if it applies here in Santa Fe. The kick starter passed its
goal and is pressing on.
