The LTE network was supposed to be secure against IMSI catchers like
StingRays and DirtBoxes, then Harris figured out how to knock the phone
back to a 2G connection and all the 4G security went away.  And the price
to replicate the $400,000 commercial version as a DIY instrument is quoted
as $1,500, though I didn't see any pointers to how to articles.  But that
is basically the cost of a low end SDR (Software Defined Radio) transceiver
that can operate on the cell bands.

So everybody is catching cell phones with their pants down, now.
