In the U.S., WWII deaths were about 400k, civil war deaths about 750k and the 1918 influenza was about 675k deaths. Current COVID-19 January 1 estimate from IHME is 378k deaths, and there’s no reason to think that’s the end yet.
All of a sudden people are going to shoot each other at this kind of scale and we’ll have a problem bigger than COVID-19 or that millions of acres have gone up in smoke or that the Pine Island and Thwaites Glaciers are coming apart at their seams?
