I don't think a hybrid is a good idea. I can see how maybe 1 remote node might 
fold into a meatspace group, but not ≥2. You might consider just keeping the 
virtual one available if remotes want to use it. And if nobody uses it, 
eliminate it.

Personally, I think you should simply stop the virtual one when you start up 
the meatspace one ... go back to the olden times, when coffee was real with 
full multiplex point-to-point comms aplenty.
