I have heard a podcast about the sociologist Nobert Elias today. He was a
contemporary of Erich Fromm and Hannah Arendt and tried like them to understand
how civilization during the time of Nazism could make such a large step
backwards. Hannah has thought all her life about it.
https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/distributed/H/bo95657649.htmlHe also
was a proponent of path dependence and argued that nothing which has evolved
over time can be understood without considering how it has become what it is.
He became famous for his book "The Civilizing
Process"https://www.timsquirrell.com/blog/2018/2/20/understanding-norbert-elias-the-civilizing-process-J.
