that’s called bird flu.  Just a few mutations away.

Did anyone (else) read "White Plague" <https://theliteraryomnivore.wordpress.com/2010/05/17/review-the-white-plague/> by Frank Herbert (yes that one)?  Not a good time to be pissing off (out of work?) molecular biologists... especially with CRISPR having matured out of Science Fiction?

BTW, my daughter (Molecular Biologist) is looking for a new gig after RFKjr & friends halted all the grants she was on at OHSU as well as many adjacents.

Flaviviruses (Zika, W. Nile, Dingue) are primarily S***hole country problems (why she made a career of them), or at least they were when the first world still had good health care, and before climate change started moving mosquito populations further north, and into longer and longer seasons.

FWIW, she's more likely to tweak chickens into tiny TRexes or give humans back our prehensile tails than follow O'Niell's lead:

/InThe White Plague, John Roe O’Neill’s world is shattered when an
IRA bomb kills his wife and children on a visit to Ireland. Driven
mad by their deaths, O’Neill, a brilliant molecular scientist,
unleashes a plague upon the world that wipes out most of the women
on the face of the Earth./

As a morbid, cynical, and (at least semi) psychopathic, */_old_/* guy: where is Covid when we need it?
