1 and 3 -- go on. 2 -- as I wrote in the past I feel that we should
not hardcode safety to 0. If this patch is made into configure
option, then it would be OK.
Concerning 4: I still think that we should remove **. Probably
the first step should be to remove ** from documentation. Then
we should clean algebra from uses of **. Renaming ** to ^ may
be used as interim measure, but ATM I do not find enough
evidence that this is really necessary.
