Before I comment on your new INSTALL... I recently realised that the the build system does *not* by default build the aldor-interface if all the aldor tests pass. It is currently still necessary to add "--enable-aldor" on the configure command line. I would actually like to add a patch so that the documentation in configure.ac corresponds to the code, i.e. default should be, if all tests are OK, the aldor-interface should be built (no "--enable-aldor" necessary).
