I think it is time for new release. We are now at revision 488
which means 40 revisions form the 1.0.4. This is not much
but we have several bug fixes and new functionality. ATM
my aim is to do release at end of next week. This may be
delayed a bit either due to lack of time or unexpected problems.
Let me mention that I do not think that we should delay
release in case of ordinary bugs -- problems which may
delay are mainly build problems. Namely, release is intended
to make FriCAS easily available to public at large. Build
problems clearly undermine this goal. OTOH delaying relase
to fix a single bug means that this one fix will get out
earlier, but several other will be delayed (both fixes in
current release and in new one which will shift more to the
future). So only very serious bugs warrant delay.
I hope to fix a few more bugs before release and commit code
to normalize logariths of rational numbers. I will probably
delay normalization of logarithms of algebraic numbers to
the next release. I have also code to better normalize roots,
but I am not sure if it will be ready to ship in reasonable
time.
Concerning build situation: there were problems building using
ECL on NetBSD. Thanks to Aleksej Saushev they should be
fixed now. There were reports about build failures on
Mac OSX using ECL -- without more detail (minimally configure
and build logs) I can do nothing to fix them. Also, on
NetBSD using Clisp sometimes fails. There is known problem
that Clisp is sometimes build without dynamic FFI -- given
that problem recures I will probaly commit patch allowing to
build using Clisp without dynamic FFI.
If you know about other problem and can provide details, please
do -- currenly I work on Fedora 9, Gentoo and Debian and have
little possibility to check what happens on other platforms.
