Would that help to distinguish between windows and non-windows? What line ending is MacOSX using nowadays? I only remember that it was unix \n win \r\n mac \r And why do you need to translate anyway. As far as I remember my Linux XEmacs works on files with \r\n and \n in the same way. I don't even see which lines end with \r and which without.
